Five Boro with 32,000 other cyclists

On Sunday, May 5, 2024, I was lucky enough to experience New York’s five boroughs by bike.

Along with 32,000 other bike-loving New Yorkers and tourists, my wife and I rode the 40 miles (64 km) through Manhattan, Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn and Staten Island.

The streets were completely cleared of traffic, and along the entire route, the NYPD ensured that the barriers were respected and that participants were allowed to drive unhindered.

There were parties and colors all along the route, and all in all it was a fantastic experience that we will never forget.

Unfortunately, the weather was not ideal that day, but despite some gray weather and a few drops, all participants were in an incredibly good mood and enjoyed the closed route.

Live bands, performers and thousands of audience members cheered and clapped us all the way from lower Manhattan, through Central Park and through the Bronx, Queens and Brooklyn before ending on Staten Island and taking the ferry back to Whitehall Ferry St.

I was also lucky enough to go behind-the-scene and see how the organization of such a big race unfolds.

All in all, I can ONLY highly recommend this fantastic event.
