ABOUT THE TRAIN WORKSHOP
The Train Workshop is the old workshop for the steam locomotives of the time, and today it is used for modern and smart events, such as beer festivals, fashion shows, conferences and much more.
With its central location close to Dybbølsbro Station in Sydhavnen and ample parking, it is easily accessible by bike, foot and car.
Construction of the many workshops began in 1907, when train traffic had become a central traffic artery in Denmark. The central workshop overhauled the steam locomotives of the time at 2 to 4 year intervals. During the most extensive overhauls, all of the locomotive’s components were disassembled and checked in the many different workshops. A major overhaul could take up to 8 months.
The majority of the employees at the Central Workshop were civil servants. In 1945, there were around 1400 employees.
